Have you ever wanted to just get up and dance? To feel like you’re in a club, letting loose and forgetting about your life just by listening to a song? That’s exactly what I feel like doing when listening to [:SITD;], (which stands for “Shadows in the Dark”). They combine pounding beats, intense synths, and textured vocals to create the song that you have been hearing in your head.
[:SITD:] was founded in 1996 by Carsten Jacek and Thorsten Lau in the Ruhr Area of Germany. During the next three years, they self produced and released their first two albums, Mourning Country (1996) and Atomic (1999). In 1999, Lau left the band to be replaced by Thomas Lesczenski. In 2001, Andrè Sorge joined the band and they toured with VNV Nation and XPQ-21 on the Futureperfect tour. Sorge left the band by the end of that year. The current band members consist of Carsten Jacek (vocals, lyrics), Thomas ‘Tom’ Lesczenski (music, programming, background vocals), and Francesco ‘Frank’ D’Angelo (keyboards). They have become one the most acclaimed electronic projects in the present industrial club scene. They will be appearing at the Blacksun Festival this March in New Haven, CT.
In 2002, [:SITD:] released their first EP, Snuff on Accession Records and performed at the Zillo Festival along with bands such as The Cure, Apoptygma Berzerk and The Crüxshadows. In 2003, Francesco D’Angelo joined [:SITD:] and they released the two albums, Laughingstock and Stronghold. They have also performed at two major festivals: M’era Luna (with Placebo, Killing Joke, and Qntal) and Infest (with VNV Nation). In 2004, they performed at the Zillo Festival (with Skinny Puppy), and the
Elektronisches Hilfswerk Charity Tour with VNV Nation, Combichrist and NamNamBulu. In 2005, they released Arranging Celebration, Coded Message:12, and the Odyssey:13 EP. The band then went on the Coded Message tour, and performed at the Zillo and M’era Luna festivals agian, as well as VNV Nation’s Formation Tour.
Their latest album, Bestie: Mensch was released on September 7, 2007 on Accession / Indigo Records in Europe and on October 9, 2007 through Metroppolis Records in North America. The release dates for the Russian and Baltic States are coming soon. This album, which you can hear a few samples from on their myspace and their website, takes a look into the dark psyche of mankind. The songs range from hard club stompers to melodic reaching electro tracks. The “Limited Edition Version” includes the full-length, 12 track bonus CD “E-WMR” - “Electronic Weapons Of Mass Reconstruction” which has 72 minutes of [:SITD:] remixes for bands such as VNV Nation, Suicide Commando, Rotersand, Bruderschaft and many more.
[:SITD:] reached number three on the German Alternative Charts in 2005 in the national most successful single act category. Their album “Stronghold” was the most successful band album on the German Alternative Chart for the year 2003. Catch [:SITD:] at the Blacksun Festival this March in Connecticut along with Seabound and many more from Friday March 14th through Sunday March 16th, 2008.
