When I hear The Infected Surface I can’t help but think of The Prodigy. The Prodigy are one of their influences but it’s not just the sound that resembles them it’s The Infected Surface’s ability to make blood pumping and yet atmospheric music. Songs like “Catwalk 2000″ feel slow and rhythmic with a nice underlying groove good to just pop on the headphones and relax. While songs like “2in1out” could crush a dance floor.
They don’t follow the conventional lines of industrial but meld all forms of electronic music into one cohesive offering. There are no lyrics but that doesn’t mean it is anywhere near boring. Thumping beats, samples, and nicely flowing synth makes it a real treat. Songs like “Picture Start” (which features a nice Kill Bill sample) even incorporate guitars.
The Infected Surface wasn’t created yesterday; for six years cohorts Jens Truckenbrodt, Monique Caller, and Marc Jodeci have had Germany’s underground scene under its spell. The group has released 2 cd’s “Area-64″ a promo from 2002 and its latest full length offering “Enemy Of The Year”. If you’re into the more electro side of things The Infected surface is definitely worth a listen. Thanks to websites like myspace the band’s infectious sound is now being heard by more people all over the world. With enough force to launch an 18 wheeler into space The Infected Surface is definitely going places.
