ABOUT:
Carpe Nocturne Magazine
FREEDOM! It was only a couple short years ago when Carpe Nocturne was a dream and then a small sub-feature in Indie IN-TUNE Magazine. Now, in the late summer/early fall of 2007, on the 2-year anniversary of its debut, Carpe Nocturne breaks free of its founding Indie IN-TUNE and spins off as its very own publication; Now with its own website, servers, editorial staff and many of the original, talented and dedicated writers and reviewers, Carpe Nocturne continues to flourish and grow!
Carpe Nocturne was born to truly support “The New Dark Culture.” Not a “Goth,” “Industrial,” EBM,” “Future-Pop,” or “Darkwave” publication; instead, a publication that unites the entire culture of those music genres and all sub-genres. In addition to music, as we grow, Carpe Nocturne will begin to add and expand features and sub-features such as The DJ Booth, genre related Arts, Fashion and even other interests shared by this very unique and open-minded culture.
Debuting in September/October of 2005 by co-sponsoring The Crüxshadows North American tour kick off (with You Shriek and Ego Likeness), Carpe Nocturne has come a long way already. In only two short years (thus far) Carpe Nocturne has been a sponsor of Gothstock, two Crüxshadows shows, a show with Ayria and covered and/or interviewed many of the most popular bands and DJs on the scene. Additionally, we’ve been a strong and continuous supporter of The Blacksun Festival and, recently becoming an official sponsor of two more major events; Connecticut’s DarkStar Festival and North Carolina’s Eccentrik Festival and Art Show. We intend to sponsor and be involved with many more festivals and events, as well as hosting our own shows and events in the foreseeable future.
For those of you who have been regular monthly readers since our beginning, or if you started reading Carpe Nocturne recently, you will continue to see the positive and unbiased coverage of your favorite music, bands, DJ’s, events, Festivals and more! Better still, you will see even more coverage and more features! Contests, prizes and we’re even working on pod-casting for live interviews broadcasting new music! For those of you who are new to Carpe Nocturne, here’s a bit of information:
“CARPE NOCTURNE”
~ An Overview ~
When translated from old world Latin to modern English, “carpe noctem” would mean “seize the night” or “pursue the night.” However, when the publication was first formed, there was a translation flaw on our part (a common flaw) and we called the publication Carpe Nocturne; it caught on and took off far quicker than any of us ever imagined it would or could! Whereas much of the music, fashion and culture we will be covering here is dark and enjoyed by people of the night, it was felt that “Carpe Nocturne” would be a perfect choice as the name for this feature area. Since our formation, we have even been called “The Voice of the New Dark Culture,” a slogan that seems to have stuck.
The “Goth” and related cultures have been labeled with various stereotypes that we may be forced to endure. Most of all however, this culture (Goth, Industrial, EBM, Darkwave and related genres) covers a lot of ground. What one person may feel isn’t “Goth,” another may feel it couldn’t get any more “Goth;” and this is true with all the related genres of The New Dark Culture. So the interpretation is varied and very wide. It seem that “labels” within the scene itself, which is against everything the original culture stood for, cause riffs between the different alignments of “The New Dark Culture.” Carpe Nocturne IS NOT here to pigeonhole the name into any specific definition or description. Some may say it dabbles in the occult, paganism, black magic and devil worship while others say it doesn’t. Some say it relates to the music and/or its message, some to the fashion, some to the lifestyle. Again, it is a very large and open field and we aren’t here to say who or what is or isn’t “Goth” or “acceptable” in this culture. We are here to cover it all, honestly and in a positive light. Here to bring the masses together so great music and events can be had and enjoyed by all! We will try to reform the splintered sub-genres to once again develop a united and powerful scene and culture for all!
Remember, Carpe Nocturne is run by an all volunteer staff from around the world. It means a lot to all of us to hear from our readers with your comments, ideas, suggestions, praises, concerns, and criticisms. Please feel free to write us any time:

Carpe Nocturne would like to thank: Our good friend Addam (AKA: DJ Addam Bombb) of addamidion Productions (www.addamidiom.com), Dae of Era Nocturna , our friends The Crüxshadows, Ego Likeness, and Dancing Ferret Records (for helping me to open my eyes to a dark, but beautiful world and culture and for their undying support of this publication)
and, of course, our designers – Maureen Gilwreath of Aguamaureen Creative (www.aquamaureen.com) and Jeff Dame of Indie IN-TUNE for helping, and in one way or another, getting this whole idea off the ground! Thanks to my awesome new and old Carpe Nocturne Staff as well; couldn’t do it without them!
